Jacob Richards' BATTERY is a high-energy solo drum set and electronics project at the intersection of jazz, electronic music, and world percussion. Drum triggers allow Richards to simultaneously play deep and generative synth textures and chords while playing drums. The music elaborates on simple song forms, including jazz standards and video game music, to create complex rhythms over a bed of electronically synthesized sounds. BATTERY explores the boundaries between human and machine through improvisation and the organic qualities of the drum.
