Observations on the human condition from a passionately detached narrator. Soft Vein, the California-based electronic project of songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Justin Chamberlain, blends elements of synthpop, electropop and darkwave with the aim to embrace duality, creating a sound equally inspired by romance and cynicism, by nostalgia and modernity, by the warm ache of love, desire and yearning - and the cold reality of longing, loneliness and loss. Known for his energetic, emotionally captivating live performances, Soft Vein’s ongoing tours across North America, Europe, and the UK have included key appearances at festivals like Wave-Gotik-Treffen, Grauzone Festival, Cold Hearted Fest (Dresden/Bochum), Cold Waves Chicago, Substance LA and more. As Germany’s Reflections of Darkness puts it: “Soft Vein’s ability to make the stage feel dynamic and alive is a testament to his skill as both a performer and a storyteller.” After stepping onto the LA darkwave scene in 2023 with his gloomy debut album Pressed in Glass, Soft Vein would further develop his sound (and a strong following) with the distinctive 2024 sophomore release Through Blinds, an addictive blend of dancefloor drone and yearning melancholy that sways between the melodic and the hypnotic. As an appendix to the album, in 2025 he released From Another Room - an EP comprised of remixes by contemporaries like Twin Tribes and Qual, alongside choice covers of some of his influences. 2026 sees Soft Vein evolving on his love for melody and shifting into synthpop territory with a pair of fresh singles; the sophisti-pop sparkle of ‘Chekhov’ and the existential new-wave of ‘All We’ve Known of Heaven,” both of which will appear on his forthcoming third album set for release in late 2026 via Artoffact Records.
